This music performance brings together composers from Hong Kong and around the world, presenting a series of brand-new works with a cross-cultural perspective, blending Chinese, Western, and Japanese musical elements to showcase the confluence of Eastern aesthetics and modern art. Through an open call for submissions, two original works by students from local tertiary institutions were also carefully selected to showcase the creative talents of Hong Kong's new generation.
From Buddhist chants to traditional Chinese opera, and from the imagery of haiku to the art of incense appreciation, the performance interweaves a multitude of elements to explore the deeper meanings of life, art, and culture, taking the audience on a journey of sensory and spiritual elevation.
World premiere works include:
‧
‧Ip Shu-kin's 'Banana Tree Reminiscence...' — a musical representation of haiku and natural imagery
‧Li Jia Yi's 'In a Moment' — a musical dialogue blending Hong Kong and Japanese cultures
‧Li Ka-tai's 'Wafting Incense, Billowing Clouds' — a cross-cultural creation inspired by the art of incense appreciation
‧So Chuen-on's 'Fragrant Sky' — a contemporary interpretation of Cantonese opera classics
‧Chung Tsz-yan's 'A Sudden Turn Back' — selected from the open call for submissions
‧Choi Ching-him's 'Gazing at the Sky' — selected from the open call for submissions
